For someone who is just getting started or just wants to be able to show off in front of friends or at parties, Id recommend the S2. Nice and compact unit that gives you everything you need to DJ. It doesn’t have any crazy bells and whistles but its got everything you need to start.
Traktor Kontrol S2 Review
This is the less bloat version of the Traktor Kontrol S4. Some differences between the S2 and S4 are size. The S2 is much more portable and smaller.
It does lose some functions that the S4 has like, default filters, loop recorder, snap/quantize/master buttons, and loop length, but you do get some new functions like pitch reset and mic power. No XLRs and it is missing external inputs besides the mic input. So it might not be ideal for those of you who plan on doing shows, if it for some reason shuts down you have nothing to go off of.
If you are looking for the best DJ controller under $500, the S2 might be what you want. It is for people who want a basic DJ controller just for playing around and maybe play some small shows. It’s a more bare bones unit than the S4 which is obvious. The S2 is a fair priced unit for what you get, you still get a great quality machine and great functions.
You get Traktors full edition software with it which is great, with other controllers at this price point you are going to have to pay more for the software.
Just keep in mind that you don’t get a extra inputs for sources so you might get caught in a pickle if it shuts down, while you are performing.
If you aren’t sold yet, other controllers I would recommend, are the Vestax VCI-100 Mk II, as it is another sample enabled deck, the reloop jockey 3, and Novation Twitch.
