Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol S5 Review

If you are not looking to break the bank and buy the Traktor Kontrol S8, the Kontrol S5 just might be the controller you are looking for. Its one of the Traktors best DJ controllers and is a huge hit with Traktor lovers as well. Lets check it out.

The Traktor S5, like the Traktor Kontrol S8, does not have any jog wheels. What has become a staple in DJ controller construction, Native Instruments is pushing boundaries and pushing buttons. Pardon the pun. Its got some great colored screens that help with tucking your laptop away.

The Rundown

Native Instrument really likes making their controllers look the same. The S5 looks like the rest of the line up, when it comes to layout and overall style.

The S5 is a great DJ if you like playing EDM, if you want to beatmatch manually though, I would stick with the S2 and S4 as they have jog wheels and proper pitch controls so you don’t have to rely on software alone.

Its got four channels which EQ adjustments down the middle, gain controls, and big filter knobs. It has your normal transport buttons, which are pretty much standard.

The touchstrips are also present on the S5, these allow you to scratch if you want to.

One of the best parts about this controller is the RGB performance pads. They feel great and look great. You are able to control your hot cues with them, but the bigget use will be with Stems, rather that remix decks.

The S5 is a more practical unit compared to its bigger brother the S8. It’s a lot cheaper as well. Its got great color screens that the S8 has as well.

If you do feel like you need jog wheels, the S8 would be a better choice, because of the standalone mixer option.
